BJ4U: The Ben Jordan Developer Diary
17 October 2010 @ 05:47 pm
As is painfully obvious, I don't update the livejournal very much.
My recommendation for those of you who would like more frequent updates is to follow me on Twitter, where I've been trying to post at least once a week.
I'll still update this with major news, but for little things, that's the place to go.

It's February 28th, i.e. the end of February, and yes, I know, the BJ2 Remake still isn't out.
Let me preface this by saying that I appreciate everyone's support, and the fact that people play and enjoy my games. It's flattering to know that people eagerly anticipate the release of new games in the series, and I am grateful to everyone for the kind words and enthusiasm.
Now, I'd like to make something clear, and that is the difference between a goal and a deadline. When I said the end of February, I said my goal was the end of February. I didn't give a specific release date, because there's really no way I can predict one, short of completing the game and then holding out on releasing it just to comply with the set date.
The fact is, with a full-time job and reliance on other people who are doing me the favor of helping with my hobby for free, there's no way I can impose a deadline. If the games were commercial, that would be another story. However, since I can only work on the games at certain moments, and since the people who help me also have their own lives and jobs and loved ones, it would be unfair of me to be down people's throats to get it all done because, in the end, it's just an unnecessary little side project done for fun.
So again, I'm sorry I didn't meet my goal. Hopefully the game will be out very soon, but until it is, all I can ask for is your patience.

Since I vowed to reserve my 100th tweet to the announcement of the release of the Ben Jordan 2 remake, I haven't really been able to update with minor details. However, there's enough news to merit an update to the developer diary. Today I finished putting in the last of the animations that were needed. Actually, what I really did was find a workaround to avoid having to do yet another animation of somebody standing up. In any case, all the art is done. Now I just need to finish up with the voices and the game will be out on the virtual shelves of the internet.
While you're waiting, here's another Trek comic from Friday's episode!

When I was younger, I enjoyed catching reruns of Star Trek: The Next Generation. Recently I've become aware that they show it at night, mainly through the comic recaps of
finkenstein and
mrcolossal who get to watch it at 11:10pm every night. I, however, have to wait until 2am! But since today was Friday and I had nothing better to do I decided to watch. Boy, what a boring episode! Of course, it had some fun parts, so I decided to rip both of them off and do my own Trek comic:

For those of you who are displeased by the lack of updates to the livejournal, I've started a Twitter. Updates will be much more frequent than here, but they're mostly stream of consciousness nonsense and/or rants. Of course, someone might find it interesting, so there it is.

You may have noticed a distinct lack of updates recently, and there is a very good reason for that: I haven't touched BJ8 since the beginning of July, when I recorded some voices for it at Mittens.
So what have I been up to? Well, I entered the TIGSource Adult/Education competition, and made this.
It was a nice diversion from Ben Jordan, and now I'll hopefully be motivated to get back to it.
